LIMBO – queer exilic narratives

LIMBO is a creative research collaboration between Framer FramedRefugee Academy and (queer/refugee/migrant) community organizers & artists. Creative workshops are given by: Maha Youssef, Rochita Loenen-Ruiz, Lamin Barrow, Parisa Akbarzadehpoladi, Jerrold Saija, Mala Badi & Sarah Naqvi. The opening event is organised by Mama Kil.

In collaboration we aim to co-create meaningful knowledge on the challenges and resilience of queer refugees and the role of community engaged scholarship. Fabian Holle (PhD researcher) and Noa Bawits (Master student Sociology and education at Framer Framed) are researching how community engaged scholarship can be mutually beneficial in terms of knowledge and resources for those involved (the queer refugee community, the art institution, academia, community organizers and artists). The idea is to present (some of) the creative works at the end. We will decide together if you want to present (some of) the works you made in an exhibition that will be collaboratively put together. You may choose whether you would like to present your works with your (artistic) name, without your name or with a pseudonym.

In addition, you are welcome on Wednesdays between 12:00h and 17:00h in the same period to work further or to just hangout. However, there won’t be any activities planned on Wednesdays. Fabian and Noa will be (mostly) present on Wednesdays working on this project or related projects.

At some point, Fabian and/or Noa will ask you to engage in an interview about creativity, queerness, refugeeness, your experience within this project or similar engagements with Dutch institutions, and life in the Netherlands. These interviews will inform Noa’s master thesis and Fabian’s PhD research on the role of community engaged scholarship in the lives of queer refugees in the Netherlands. We aim to take the co-creative aspect of this project serious, so we are hoping that you will share your own ideas, visions and concerns with us at any time, also outside of the interview!

If you are queer and have a refugee background, you can participate in any workshop for free. Every Sunday from January 30th until March 27th at Framer Framed. Please contact Fabian Holle on FacebookInstagram or via e-mail (f.y.holle@vu.nl) for information and sign up.
